Rolling Cyber Debate Question for John Hagelin from October 26, 2000
From Web White & Blue (http://www.webwhiteblue.org)

Question:
In four years I will be entering college, and I am wondering what you plan to do to make college more affordable to middle- and low-income families. Do you plan to introduce more scholarships and grants to kids whose families can't afford college?
Submitted from Carly from Stuyvesant High School, via Youth-e-Vote

Answer:
I am a lifelong educator--the only Professor running for President. Education is the cornerstone of my campaign, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that everyone has access to a college education who wants one. Pell Grants and broad access to ultra-low interest, federally insured student loans will help ensure universal access to high-quality college education.

In addition, I believe in adult education and vocational training for those workers who wish to acquire the skills needed to compete in today's high-tech economy. In this age of rapid technological change, many underskilled workers are facing job obsolescence and low job security. I would like to see government work in partnership with our technology businesses to provide high-quality job training programs and to reintegrate workers who are being displaced by our rapidly shifting job market. It should not be necessary for the United States to import so many of our highest-tech, highest-paid workers.
