Rolling Cyber Debate Question for John Hagelin from October 30, 2000
From Web White & Blue (http://www.webwhiteblue.org)

Question:
What's your view on the use of encryption technology for protecting the privacy of citizens and companies? Do you favor legislation substantively easing export restrictions for strong encryption technology or use of encryption technology on the Internet?
Submitted from Ronin Developer from Slashdot, via Web White & Blue 2000

Answer:
To attempt to restrict the export of encryption is ludicrous and unworkable, since individuals and businesses will always demand the strongest encryption possible and governments will always try to find a way to break it. The right of Americans to encrypt will not be abridged under a Hagelin/Goldhaber administration.
